The top knife is one I sharpened. The bottom knife is a new Spyderco with it's factory edge.
Notice the how the factory edge has grind marks, my edge is smooth. Both of these are quite sharp, however my smooth edge cuts with less friction on the edge resulting in a longer lasting sharpness. Additionally, I slightly round the transition of the edge to the rest of the blade. The factory edge has what you might call a shoulder as it transitions from the edge to the rest of the knife body. My rounded shoulder passes through with less resistance make a smooth cut and increasing the overall feel of sharpness.
