Ice Fishing Augers

Any ice auger blade can be sharpened. Some manufacturers tell you to buy new blades when the old get dull, but when done correctly your auger blades can be sharpened many many times before needing replaced. Like with knives I do a polished edge for longer lasting sharpness.

Don't forget your tip. A dull tip can slow an auger with sharp blades. You can bring me just the blades, the whole blade head, or even the whole auger.

Do you park your auger drilled part way into the ice? Or stand you auger on it's blades? whether drilled into the ice and left standing or leaned against your snowmobile or other gear, you can affect the cutting head. It is possible to bend the head so that the blades no longer meet the ice at the correct angle. best to put the cover on and lay it safely on it's side and at home hang it.

It is best to apply oil to the blades when you come home from fishing. WD-40 is fine during the fishing season. for over summer storage apply a thin layer of something heavier like motor oil. And don't forget to put fuel stabilizer in your auger gas before spring storage, then run it for 10 minutes every 90 days avoid a trip to the shop in the fall. (I don't do engine work on these, just sharpening)

Cost: $8.00 if you bring just the blades. $10 if I take them of and put them back on.
