More info

Great addition! Works perfectly, just like my other Gransfors!

I had this axe on my tool list. Then I saw a log I had intended to resaw for board lumber was infested with termites. I ordered this axe and made quick work of the entire 10' long 16" diameter log in about an hour. From log to small pieces in lawn trash bags on the curb, this axe did exceptionally well. The handle is excellent for grip and swing. The head drives in and releases well. The handle length is perfect, the curve makes life just that much easier. It's so simple, yet so effective. Just like my other Gransfors Bruks, I know if will be around for a while. As a side note, I have found linseed oil to work well on the handle, and put some kind of oil on the head (Remington Gun oil works well). The steel is tough, but it is carbon steel (which is what allows Gransfors to be tough and obtain an amazing edge), 6 months in a shed and it will turn a certain shade of orange (Loctite Naval Jelly will take care of that).

OMG! This is a fine axe!

I have more than my share of axes to use, but when I too this one for a ride, I realized just how much I was missing.

The GF American Felling Axe is an apex preditor that deserves respect. While I have not had it long--and it is my third GF axe, I have learned that it is as good as it gets for muscle-powered tree fellers.

The stout head, large bit, and ideally shaped wedge cheeks cuts deep but minimizes the amount of cling from the resisting wood. It bites deep and clears the workspace very well throwing chips far and wide.

For finer work, you have to be careful because once the heavy head is put into motion, unless the object is truly immovable, this head will go beyond. So care is needed in finer work since it views everything as a fell. There is little room for carving. It's all or nothing.

The 35" handle is perfect for putting your all into a swing. I can't imagine how the the poor wood feels when each swing is a deliberate and forceful as a mallet strike on a circus bell column game.

Splitting rounds is a blast since the GFAFA blasts them apart into quarters or fifths with the ease of a hydraulic splitter without the gas and slow motion. Kabamm! From a yard away you can enjoy the razor sharp steel popping apart the cellulose cells even when the round is over a foot thick.

This is my new favorite big axe. Expensive, I know, But heirlooms aren't cheap. Just worth it. And I full intend to use this axe hard before I pass it on.
