We have had these axes in the past when we were able to buy government (forest service or military) contract overruns, and they were wildly popular. It has been more then a year since we have had any, but we still get inquiries about them, so Council tool agreed to run a batch of these for us. Since there were some complaints about the grade of handle on the Forest Service spec axes, we opted to upgrade to the handle from the Velvicut Bad Boys axe, making this one of the best axe options you can find.
We have divided the axes into groups based on appearance details. We think this is a win for every one. Those who want a certain look can get it; those who just want a great tool can save some money.
Please choose a sheath from the drop-down menu:
Price for standard sheath: $16.00
Price for Velvicut (full-cover) sheath: $25.00
We recommend using Axe Wax on your handle, which you can find here.
Decent head, lousy wedge!
Hello,
Really enjoyed purchasing from Omaha Knife company and they did pick me a "great looking" axe. Set the axe in oil for 2 days to tighten up the head and the blade took a good edge with a puck. Needless to say it chopped exactly 1, 3-4" tree down while camping. When I went to buck a limb the head just fell off. I couldn't really tell if the handle cracked in the front, but what I do know is the wedge doesn't hold anything. The plastic wedge was actually stuck in the head. I recently hammered the handle back in with a mallet really tight and put a wooden wedge with metal cross wedge. Sat it in oil overnight and will take it out this weekend. If it fails again, I'll be purchasing a new handle! Maybe I just got a bad one?
Perfect
Exactly what I was looking for. Put some boiled linseed oil on it and the puppy is ready to go!! Love it.
Nice ax
Nice axe for the money. It's about midway from cheapy $20 hardware store and something made in Sweden. It did need sharpening out of the box, it was maybe 15 minutes with stones to get it hair shaving sharp. The grain was great on my ax, but I would prefer a little more meat in the handle, this is kind of thin. But a great value for a great ax.
simply the best
Handle is slim and comfortable, grain orientation is great, steel holds an edge a long time.this is the way an Axe is supposed to be made.its the perfect size for limbing.you can pay hundreds of dollars for a quality foreign made Axe if ya want.I found one that's made with pride in the USA!
